Hey, I haven't read the Pink Dumbells piece yet, but I wanted to share that since I've been doing the UltraMetabolism thing, my sprint workouts have felt a lot better, and I'm also getting a fair bit faster.
This is a great demonstration of the "expanding cycle" in action. Eating better leads to feeling better, which leads to more energy for exercise which leads to feeling even better (and more confident) which makes other healthy/happy choices and bigger possibilities more doable.
Does anybody want to try the high-intensity-interval training (HIIT) workout program featured in the forthcoming December issue of Experience Life? We'll provide a link early for those of you interested. I've been experimenting with this program with my niece and training partner, Xanthi, and you really don't have to be much of an athlete to get started with it -- just do what you can and reap the rewards, which are considerable. And for those of you who don't like running or walking long distances, it's a boon, because it's over inside of 20 minutes. You want to be doing some kind of regular exercise before you start this program, but like I said, you really DON'T have to be an athlete.
Any takers?
P.

I'd like to give it a try. I did a 5 k run yesterday with intervals and it felt great. Yoga seems to be pretty good as well. This week I was able to do a crow, headstand, crow sequence. Good sense of accomplishment

I have planned intervals into my 5k route by choosing a route that has the most hills possible. This forces me to interval train even when I don't feel like it... ;)

Cool! Okay, Pat (and all you other takers -- 'cause I know you're out there) -- I'll ask our Web genius, Jamie, to post an early link for you ASAP. Watch for it early next week -- and all kudos for this smart piece go to Jen, who was the assigning editor on this one, and who brought the whole HIIT workout trend to our attention. She rocks -- but then, you know that.

Hi Christy,
Thanks for the link. I like the fact that looks short enough to fit into busy schedules.
because I like to measure things, I think I'll do a regular 5 k run and time myself. I'll try the interval training for 3 or 4 weeks and then time my 5 k again to see how I do. Certainly couldn't hurt my indoor soccer game.
Cheers
Pat

Rock on, Pat! I think you'll be pleased with the results in your 5K experiment. It's great to have such a scientist in the group ...

Of course, we received 12 cm of snow last night. It is very cold and very windy. Very unpleasant. Waiting for warmer conditions to venture out again. It is supposed to warm up on Friday. What the heck, we are not ready for winter.

Hi everyone,
Snow has melted and we are having a balmy warm spell. Did a 5k tonight. It may be my imagination but I think I am running with more energy since pre diet. I haven't been training more. It is just that I seem more comfortable running. My heart rate monitor registered between 155 and 165 but I felt comfortable.
I will start the interval training this week.
Cheers.
Pat

I am onto the interval training today. 19.5 min. A rather modest investment in time and easy to accomplish.
Interesting articles on fitness on the week four page....thank you.
