    Hello everyone

Week 1 is almost over and still feeling great. I have never enjoyed my food the way I've been lately and the energy level is amazing! I'm going to continue the detox phase for 2 more weeks as suggested in the book.
Two questions: Do you think someone can be allergic to quinoa?
Also, I'm going to have some dental work done over the next few months and I was wondering how the shots of anesthesia would affect my detox program. Any supplements to take to counter the effects of the drug injected in my jaw?
    Any suggestion would be welcome!
Thanks and take care and keep strong!

One of the hardest parts of this has been giving up soy. It's really difficult to make protein choices, although I as usual have a diet rich in legumes, nuts, fish. I usually have lots of soy in my diet, and in fact, I have used the phytoestrogens in soy milk to counteract menopausal symptoms.
When I last did the Ultrasimple diet, we were allowed soymilk, only unsweetened. I felt much better that time than this one in general, not sure why. Might I reintroduce this again?

    Hi Sezelle,

I wonder if you could move soy up a bit for the reintroduction phase. You should be on dairy now, and then it's suppose to be gluten followed by soy. If you haven't reintroduced dairy yet, perhaps you could start with soy and then dairy, gluten and so on. The first 4-5 foods are what cause the most problems for people. You'll know fairly quickly if soy is an offender in your body or if it's something it needs.

    Good luck!

    Hi Sharron here,
I have decided to continue on the first week plan for 3 weeks. I find it ok, except when going out to eat with friends. One night we went from restaurant to restaurant looking for food I could eat. My friends have very supportive. I also have gone back to my exercising on a regular bases. I love the evening baths and or the sauna depending on my schedule. I do not miss anything except gluten products.
I hope everyone is doing well.
    Sharron

On the topic of allergy to quinoa, anything is possible. More likely is that there's something IN the quinoa (could you be eating it with wheat-containing soy sauce, or butter, or nuts, for example?), or that you are having trouble digesting it or some other new whole, high-fiber foods you are eating (in which case you might try taking a digestive enzyme with your meal) but if you're eating it plain or if you try the enzyme and it's still bugging you, I'd say stop. You might try millet instead. It's very fast cooking, no-gluten, and mild flavored and a good sub for quinoa in many recipes.

Let us know what you find out ...

I forgot to address this one ... I wouldn't worry too much about the novocaine. In most cases, your body will clear it in a couple days without trouble. You might want to let your dentist know you'd prefer not to have them use anything with epinephrine in it (basically, adrenaline), though, because it has a tendency to make folks shaky under some circumstances, and I think that effect could be more pronounced if you're detoxing. Best thing to do is just drink lots of water and take some vitamin C both before and after. The water helps flush, and the C helps with tissue repair from the dental work.

Keep in mind, this is not medical advice, just my two cents from personal experience. Good luck!

Thank you for the vitamin C tip.
I'm going to start my 3rd and last week of detox, never felt better in the past 5 years. I felt I was depressed. I was probably, but I can clearly see the link with my diet (mostly meat and rice and LOTS of sugar). I don't even crave those as much anymore, just a few tricks my mind plays on me sometimes.
